We felt that it was also time to move to a Church closer to where we were living, even though we had been members of First Methodist in McKinney for 35 years. We started visiting a number of churches, mostly Presbyterian and Methodist. We went to Sunday school classes as well as worship services in each church. When we were checking out Sunday school classes at First Methodist in Richardson, we were appalled at the subject matter of their classes. The first one we visited was a lecture on the life of Abraham Lincoln; the second was a lecture from a guy that had hiked across Europe!

After class, some members were commenting on the lack of Bible teaching and of course Charlotte and I echoed their sentiments. One of them said, “Didn’t you teach Bible in McKinney?” I said yes and they said, “Well, will you teach a class here?” I had prayed that God would lead us to our next assignment and I wondered if this wasn’t our call. Anyway, Charlotte and I with three other couples started a new class that was strictly teaching from God’s word verse-by-verse, book-by-book.

A retired Methodist Preacher came by for a visit and said he would like to teach the class. Of course I said sure and now I am the back-up teacher for the class. The class now, after two years, has about 40 members and is going well. I am still not sure we have found a permanent church home but if God has other needs He will open the door. We just have to be patient and listen for His call.
